Karl’s practice involves counseling and representing clients in a wide range of litigation matters including contract disputes, business torts, product liability, real property, construction, property management, medical malpractice, medical device, liquor liability-dram shop, employment/independent contractor litigation, wrongful death, personal injury, premises liability, and maritime and admiralty. He also regularly provides corporate guidance and counseling on issues regarding risk management, broker and independent contractor agreements, indemnification, fee disputes, and contract drafting, review, and negotiation. Karl handles all phases of litigation in both state and federal court, from initial investigations to trial, and also advocates for clients at the appellate level.
Karl has successfully represented business entities regarding alleged breaches of contract, tortious interference with contractual or prospective economic relations, consumer protection and unfair business practices, wrongful termination, commercial and residential lease disputes, wage and commission disputes, breach of fiduciary duties, intentional and negligent misrepresentation, fraud, civil conspiracy, conversion, statutory violations, and various land disputes. His clients have included technology companies, transportation entities, property management companies and owners, medical providers, medical device manufacturers, general product manufacturers, general contractors and subcontractors, landowners, insurance carriers, food and beverage establishments, utility companies, and governmental entities including the State of Washington. Karl’s experience representing a diverse set of clients and significant industry knowledge gives him the ability to efficiently address the particular needs attendant to each matter.
Karl received his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Illinois College of Law and his bachelor’s degree in law, societies and justice from the University of Washington. At Illinois Law, Karl made the National Team for the Frederick Green Moot Court Competition and was an editor for the Journal of Law, Technology & Policy. He received the CALI Award for counseling, fact negotiation, and interviewing and honors in legal research. Karl was a judicial intern during law school to former Chief United States District Judge Jose L. Linares of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
