Powell assists clients in real estate financing, development, and leasing. He is knowledgeable and experienced in the drafting and review of organizational documents, purchase and sale agreements, finance documents, and leases. Powell is skilled at coordinating transactions with multiple parties to ensure closings occur according to schedule.
Prior to joining the firm, Powell was a real estate finance attorney at a Washington, D.C., firm. He represented commercial real estate lenders participating in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac multifamily mortgage-backed securities programs from loan origination through closing and post-closing servicing. Powell also clerked with the Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County's Office of the General Counsel where he prepared loan finance documents for multifamily developments participating in affordable housing programs and prepared leases for tenants residing in said developments.
Powell earned his bachelor’s degree from Union College and his law degree from American University Washington College of Law. While in law school, he was a student attorney in the Community Economic and Equity Development Law Clinic, the note and comment editor in the American University International Law Review, and a member of both the business law and the construction law and real estate societies.
