Sixteen Cozen O’Connor Attorneys Named to DC Courts’ 2025 Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll

The record-breaking 2025 Honor Roll includes 6,052 lawyers from more than 180 law firms, corporations, nonprofits, academia, as well as solo practitioners, including these 16 Cozen O’Connor lawyers.

Joey is a white-collar criminal defense attorney and civil litigator who zealously defends companies and individuals in government and internal investigations, enforcement actions, and civil and criminal proceedings. He has significant experience advising clients across a broad range of criminal and civil matters.

In the criminal context, Joey has successfully defended individuals and companies against allegations of health care fraud and abuse, kickback violations, tax fraud, bank fraud, money laundering, U.S. export controls and sanctions violations, insider trading, market manipulation, bribery, price-fixing, bid-rigging and other criminal offenses. In civil litigation, Joey represents clients in individual and class actions in state and federal courts. He has defended clients in complex matters, including False Claims Act (FCA) litigation, antitrust multidistrict litigation, RICO claims, state attorneys general investigations and actions, contract disputes, and civil fraud claims.

Joey maintains an active pro bono practice. He has appeared in state and immigration courts on behalf of asylum seekers, advocated to seal and expunge criminal records in D.C. Superior Court, and assisted members of the LGBTQ+ community with legal name changes and corrections to gender markers on official documents. He is an active member of the LGBTQ+ Bar and an alumnus of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD).

Joey received his J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C., where he was a member of the Barristers’ Council and staff member of the Georgetown Technology Law Journal.  He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business.
