Ekwutozia is a seasoned corporate transactional attorney advising clients in the financial services industry. She brings in-depth experience in the structuring, developing, and marketing of alternative investment products, including hedge funds, fund of funds, private equity funds, real estate funds, venture funds, liquid alternatives funds, and separately managed accounts.
Before joining Cozen O'Connor, Ekwutozia gained valuable experience at leading national and international law firms, where she advised on a wide range of complex transactions, including management company formation, fund formations, restructurings, business development, investor relations for domestic and offshore private equity and hedge funds (including co-investment vehicles), and ongoing operations. In addition to her firm experience, she was also a vice president and assistant general counsel for a major global investment firm, where she negotiated complex client agreements, structured and launched new investment products, and ensured compliance with relevant regulations. This mix of experience has afforded Ekwutozia the unique ability to anticipate the needs of institutional investors and funds and provide them with pertinent analysis.
Ekwutozia earned her J.D. from Howard University School of Law, where she was the senior articles editor of the Howard Law Journal, and her B.A., with honors, from the College of the Holy Cross. She is a regular presenter and speaker on recent developments and diversity and inclusion within the financial services industry and takes pride in her proven track record of advising both established and emerging investment management firms, including those led by traditionally underrepresented managers.
