Martin K. Johnson brings extensive experience in government relations, research and data analysis, and community and industry engagement to Virginia Public Strategies.

Most recently, Martin served as chief external affairs officer for the Virginia REALTORS®, the largest trade association in the Commonwealth. In this role, he oversaw multiple teams responsible for legislative advocacy, PAC strategy, member mobilization, market trends and analysis, and community and industry relations. Martin worked closely with numerous elected officials, candidates, and campaigns, including a governor, a state senator, and both Republican and Democratic gubernatorial transition teams.

Over the course of his tenure, he held several senior leadership positions—including interim chief executive officer, chief lobbyist, and senior vice president of government relations—helping strengthen the association’s policy influence and statewide presence.

Previously, Martin was a partner at FutureLaw, LLC, a boutique Virginia-based lobbying firm, where he supported clients across sectors such as real estate, technology, pharmaceuticals, constitutional offices, and land-use development.

Martin currently serves as a commissioner on the Virginia Housing Commission, appointed by the governor.  In addition, he serves as a member of the Massey Cancer Center Advisory Board and the Richard Bland College Board of Directors, where he chairs the "Innovation Park" land development project.

Martin earned his degree in Mass Communications, Public Relations, and Political Science from Virginia Commonwealth University. Outside the office, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Elizabeth, and their two children, Evelyn and Van.
