The Five Work Languages: A Guide for the Legal Profession to Bridge Generational Gaps

Nicole Su and Honorable Judge Stephanie Jones co-authored a white paper, edited by Arielle Eisenberg, on bridging the gap between generations within the legal landscape. They discuss the internal struggle experienced by law firms due to the generational shift in legal departments and stress the importance of acknowledging and understanding intergenerational differences. Nicole and Judge Jones distinguish between Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z and offer ways to effectively communicate across generations using the five “love languages”: words of affirmation, non-verbal appreciation, gifts, quality time, and acts of service. They suggest that the legal profession's future relies on incorporating each generation’s strengths and differences into one cohesive environment.
