Adams Releases AI Action Plan

Mayor Adams and Chief Technology Officer Matthew Fraser released the “New York City Artificial Intelligence Action Plan.” The plan will develop a framework for city agencies to evaluate AI tools and risks and support the implementation of technology citywide. The action plan outlines 37 key actions, including a framework for AI governance, an external advisory network, responsible AI acquisition, and an annual AI progress report.

“Dining Out NYC” Proposed Rules

The Adams administration is launching an engagement campaign on proposed rules for “Dining Out NYC,” the city’s permanent outdoor dining program. Under the program, outdoor dining will be permitted year-round on the sidewalk and in the roadway between April and November. The rules include a fee structure with varying rates based on location and setup size, design requirements, and siting criteria. The first approved Dining Out NYC setups are expected in spring 2024.

NYC Council Passes and Introduces Legislation

Last Thursday, the NYC Council convened a Stated meeting, where they passed and introduced multiple pieces of legislation. The Council passed legislation requiring the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to report annually on drowning deaths that occur in the city. Another bill was passed, requiring the Department of Transportation to promote infrastructure equity as part of its master plan and creating an investment roadmap, identifying underserved neighborhoods with high infrastructure needs.
