Towner French was quoted in an article in LegaltechNews discussing whether a comprehensive data privacy bill might take longer to become a reality now that Republicans have secured a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, albeit a slender one, as a result of the 2022 midterm elections. According to Towner, there will probably not be “a heck of a lot of major changes in the House. It’s the Senate where we get into chaos, potentially, because they are losing [supporters of the bill.]” The key question, he says, is, “how is [House Energy & Commerce Committee ranking member] Cathy McMorris Rogers’ relationship going to look like with [Federal Trade Commission] chair Lina Khan? It’s not going to be good, obviously.”
