FDA Proposes New Food Safety Regulations to Prevent Illness

Alison Lecker, an associate in Cozen O’Connor’s Utility, Environmental & Energy Practice Group, discusses how revised rules from the Food and Drug Administration attempt to minimize instances of foodborne illness in The Legal Intelligencer. In particular, Alison focuses on “the produce rule, which affects farms, and the preventive controls rule, which applies to food facilities.” By revising its rules, the FDA has recognized that different supply chains, varying scales of production and consumption pose a variety of health risks and adopted a risk-based approach that allows for flexibility in the regulatory framework.
