Ken Fisher is quoted in a Crain’s New York Business article discussing Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s appointment of Anthony Shorris as president and CEO of the New York City Economic Development Corporation. The appointment is being viewed by many in the business community as a reassuring choice after months of uncertainty about who would lead the city’s primary economic development agency. Shorris brings decades of public sector experience, including leadership roles at the Department of Finance, the Office of Management and Budget, and the Port Authority.

“The business community is going to be looking to him to articulate an economic vision for the Mamdani administration, which hasn’t been clear up until now,” said Ken. “You’d be hard pressed to find a member of the public sector elite who is more accomplished, more experienced, and more credentialed than Tony.” Shorris’ leadership will be closely watched as the administration advances priorities such as city-owned grocery stores, a city-backed property insurance program, and a broader vision that links economic development with improving outcomes for working New Yorkers. “His appointment sends a message to the business community: Shorris means to tsuris,” Ken added, referring to the Yiddish word for “distress.”
