NY Bill Would Redefine Corporations to Limit Election Spending

Jerry Goldfeder was quoted in a Bloomberg Government article discussing a proposed bill in New York that would prohibit corporations, LLCs, and foreign entities from engaging in election activity or spending money on ballot measures. The bill would apply to any company that does business in New York. According to Jerry, the measure is “dramatic and probably unconstitutional” in its attempt to restrict corporations’ electoral involvement, adding that the New York legislature would likely examine the measure’s constitutionality. “It would be far better to reform disclosure laws so that voters have a clear idea as to where a candidate’s support is coming from.”
