Peter Fontaine discusses the criticism climate change scientists are subjected to by opponents in a New York Times guest essay co-authored by Dr. Michael Mann, a professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Science at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Mann was accused of research fraud by an adjunct scholar with the Competitive Enterprise Institute and a TV/radio personality who wrote for the National Review. After a decade-long legal journey, Dr. Mann was awarded over $1 million in punitive damages by a jury in the District of Columbia Superior Court in February 2024.
The piece discusses the attacks on scientific and medical researchers and the implications it has on these individuals' livelihoods as well as their research.
