WASHINGTON D.C., March 22, 2023 – Cozen O’Connor Public Strategies is pleased to welcome Varun Krovi, a highly regarded Washington lobbyist and former Congressional chief of staff, to its Washington D.C. practice. Varun, who brings to the firm a successful track record in government relations, coalition building, and a range of political campaign initiatives, joins Public Strategies as a senior principal.
Varun’s career includes work in both the public and private sectors, advising corporations, donors, senior policymakers, and trade associations on complex political, legislative, regulatory, and communications matters. He comes to the firm from a nonprofit committed to promoting technological innovation to prevent future pandemics.
“Varun is no stranger to Washington, D.C. His experience is as diverse and encompassing as the nation’s capital itself,” said Howard Schweitzer, CEO of Cozen O’Connor Public Strategies. “He brings a proven record of counseling clients on critical regulatory and policy issues, delivering strategic political advice, and directing successful multi-jurisdictional lobbying campaigns at every level of government. He’s a terrific addition, and I’m excited to welcome him to the firm.”
Prior to his nonprofit experience, Krovi was director of technology and appropriations at government relations and communications firm Invariant. In that role, he served as the one of the firm’s Democratic lobbyists, representing a range of clients — from the Fortune 500 to startups — on key technology policy issues, including the U.S. Innovation and Competition Act (USICA), CHIPS Act, artificial intelligence (AI), privacy, and new and emerging technologies.
Before entering private practice, Varun served as chief of staff for Michigan Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence, managing an 18-person staff, a $1.3 million budget, and operations across three offices in Washington, D.C., and Michigan. As a senior adviser, he developed successful strategies that helped Lawrence fulfill political and legislative priorities and secure positions in House leadership and the House Appropriations Committee.
“Cozen O’Connor Public Strategies has a tremendous reputation in Washington, D.C., and I’m excited to join the team,” Krovi said. “This is an entrepreneurial, forward-looking organization and as someone whose background includes promoting client interests in AI and other cutting-edge technologies, this is where I want to be. I’m looking forward to meeting and working with my new colleagues.”
