Cozen O'Connor Partner Jennifer Taylor Thrives on Mentorship

Monday, April 5, 2021

Jennifer Taylor was highlighted in the Daily Business Review about how she has devoted her career to building the confidence of young lawyers and young people in South Florida. “One thing they don’t do a good job of is telling and showing young girls that they can do whatever they want, just like young boys can,” she said. “And I had that instilled in me at a young age from my parents and grandparents, that I was no different from any of the other kids in the family. So when you talk about mentors, those were my earliest mentors — my older family members, because you have to have people telling you that you can do things.” “I think [my family] always wanted a higher level of formal education for me than they had had, so my guess is any graduate route would’ve been acceptable,” she said. “I’m not a numbers-oriented person. So once you start narrowing down what types of postsecondary degrees are you going to funnel yourself into, looking back, they were right. It has been the right career for me.”

“I have known Jennifer most of her career and she was my mentee,” Susan Eisenberg said. “I have seen her gain confidence as she developed an expertise in her field and then start to help others. As she has taken on leadership roles both within and outside the firm, she has taken time to develop the confidence of those she mentors. She has become a ‘go-to’ person for those looking for advice.”

Jen and Susan moved to Cozen O’Connor in 2015, the same year Jennifer Queliz joined the firm as an associate. Taylor became Queliz’s mentor through a department program. “The thing about this profession is you don’t get a whole lot of positive reinforcement or feedback that often,” Jennifer said. “I think Jen does a good job of meeting you where you are and also giving you leeway to figure things out by yourself and lifting you up when you do that.”
