New York, NY – May 18, 2021 – Cozen O’Connor is pleased to announce Aselle Kurmanova will be a member of the Health Care Practice in New York. In her new position, she will draw upon her extensive experience in the corporate mergers and acquisitions space, where she has served as a trusted adviser to numerous companies on corporate strategies, tax law, and regulatory matters. Kurmanova joins the firm from Seyfarth Shaw LLP, reuniting with John Shire, who joined the firm in November 2020. Prior to Seyfarth, Kurmanova practiced at another global law firm, representing clients in complex domestic and cross-border M&A transactions across a broad range of industries.
Kurmanova brings a deep transactional knowledge to the practice. She has also recently focused on the COVID-19 pandemic and its effect on corporate transaction activities. She has co-authored several articles and written legal updates on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on mergers and acquisitions activity, as well as the impacts of U.S. government stimulus funding.

The addition of Kurmanova to the Health Care practice follows the recent hire of the Health Care Practice Co-Chair, John D. Shire, who has focused on corporate and transactional practice in the health care and life sciences industry and other highly regulated activities. Working together, they bring a depth of understanding of federal and state health care regulations governing reimbursement, fraud and abuse, compliance, and enforcement matters. Shire has led several of the most recognized transactions in the U.S. health care arena. They share a complementary background in representing private funds in formation, structural matters, and capital allocation within the health care and life sciences spaces and digital medicine space.
Kurmanova earned her B.S. in accounting from the Syracuse University School of Management, where she received a full-tuition scholarship for academic excellence, and her L.L.M in taxation and a J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center, where she received the Hartson Memorial Award for achievement in tax law.
