Monday, December 6, 2021

PHILADELPHIA, December 6, 2021 — Cozen O’Connor is pleased to announce that the firm’s Commercial Litigation Department has been selected by The American Lawyer as the Pennsylvania Litigation Department of the Year. The American Lawyer Industry Awards honor the most exceptional lawyers, law firms, legal departments and organizations in the country.  The regional litigation department of the year awards recognizes the best litigation department in each jurisdiction.

The award recognized Cozen O’Connor’s Commercial Litigation Group’s remarkable results for major clients in a diverse array of matters, including winning landmark rulings in the first two cases ever to seek protection for cannabis companies in federal court under the U.S. Constitution; a first-of-its-kind settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice on behalf of a gaming company; a hard-fought appeal before Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court that prevented a radical expansion of attorney liability; and a pro bono civil rights settlement with a municipal police department affirming it cannot enforce federal civil immigration law. Additionally, the Commercial Litigation Group experienced growth despite COVID-19. The Commercial Litigation Group added 63 lateral attorneys firmwide between March 1, 2020 and May 1, 2021. Cozen O’Connor was a finalist for Pennsylvania Litigation Group of the Year in 2019 and 2020.
