Nine Cozen O’Connor Lawyers Named 2021 “Lawyers of the Year” by Best Lawyers in America

In addition, 152 Cozen O’Connor lawyers, including the nine “Lawyers of the Year,” have been selected as Best Lawyers and will be included in the 2021 edition of the Best Lawyers in America.

Cozen O’Connor’s “Lawyers of the Year” include:

Gregory Eisenstark has wide-ranging experience representing public utilities, unregulated energy companies, electric generation companies, educational and governmental institutions, and other industry participants. He maintains a comprehensive energy and utility regulatory and transactional practice. Eisenstark has litigated hundreds of utility rate and regulatory filings to successful completion in state, federal and appellate courts. Before entering private practice, he served as Associate General Regulatory Counsel for New Jersey’s Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG), one of the 10 largest power companies in the U.S. This is the second time he has been selected as a Best Lawyer “Lawyer of the Year” in New Jersey.

H. Robert Fiebach is senior counsel to the firm’s Commercial Litigation Department and co-chair of the Legal Malpractice Group. He previously chaired the firm’s Commercial Litigation Department. In addition to his extensive trial experience, Fiebach is an accomplished appellate advocate. He has successfully handled many appeals within his practice areas in the Pennsylvania Superior and Supreme Courts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the Federal Court of Appeals for the Second and Fourth Circuits. This is the second time that he has been honored by Best Lawyers as a “Lawyer of the Year” in Philadelphia.

Jeremiah Garvey focuses his practice on securities-related transactions and corporate governance, specifically in connection with private capital financings and public offerings, and the organization, funding, and ongoing representation of emerging growth technology companies and venture firms. He also handles the public offerings of securities, representing both issuers and underwriters, and is experienced in the underwritten offerings of equity securities, as well as 144A private placements of high-yield debt securities. In addition, Garvey works closely with public company issuers on securities law compliance, general corporate guidance, and governance and equity-based compensation issues. This is the fourth time that Garvey has been named a Best Lawyer “Lawyer of the Year” in Pittsburgh.

Thomas Giotto, co-chair of Cozen O’Connor’s national Labor & Employment Department, helped launch the , full-service Pittsburgh office when he joined Cozen O’Connor in 2017. He has been instrumental in rapidly growing the Pittsburgh office and in helping to expand the firm’s national Labor & Employment practice. Giotto concentrates his practice on representing management in many aspects of labor, employment, and employment-related litigation. Giotto’s traditional labor practice includes representing employers during union organizing campaigns, collective bargaining, and grievance arbitrations. In addition, Giotto has represented employers in litigation involving race, sex, sexual harassment, age and disability discrimination, and against claims alleging violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, COBRA, and wrongful discharge and related common law claims. This is the fourth time Giotto has been named a Best Lawyer “Lawyer of the Year” in Pittsburgh.

Suzanne Mayes is co-chair of both Cozen O’Connor’s Business Law Department and Public & Project Finance Practice Group. She focuses her practice on municipal and project finance, particularly in the areas of economic development, transportation, public works, education, senior living and housing. She is an active member of numerous government and nonprofit boards, and is a founding member of Ladies First, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational and networking opportunities for female public finance professionals in the Mid-Atlantic region. She is serving her third term on the firm’s Board of Directors and is also a member of the management committee.

Jeffrey Pasek, a past chair of Cozen O’Connor’s Labor & Employment Department, maintains a national practice representing employers in all facets of labor and employment law, including the negotiating and drafting of employment agreements for c-suite executives. He has handled collective bargaining negotiations and grievance arbitrations in a variety of industries, including apparel, construction, education, entertainment, food, healthcare, retail and transportation. An active litigator, Pasek has tried cases and argued appeals in the federal courts throughout the United States, including before the U.S. Supreme Court. This is the second time that he has been named By Best Lawyers as a “Lawyer of the Year” in Philadelphia.

James Potts, co-chair of Cozen O’Connor’s Insurance Corporate & Regulatory Practice, represents a wide range of clients in the insurance industry, including property and casualty and life and health insurance companies, HMOS, large commercial insureds, insurance producers, intermediaries and adjusters, hedge funds and other investors, guaranty funds, and insurance regulators and receivers. He frequently handles insurance companies and producer mergers and acquisitions, advises on complex insurance licensing and regulatory compliance issues, and provides counseling related to insurance receivership matters. Potts also advises insureds and insurance producers concerning the advisability of establishing a captive, including segregated cell companies, and has assisted in their formation and licensing.

Joseph Tilson is co-chair of the firm’s national Labor & Employment Department. In this role, he has been instrumental in the rapid growth of the firm’s national Labor & Employment practice. Tilson is a past Chair of the American Bar Association’s Section on Labor and Employment Law, one of the ABA’s largest and most active sections. His practice entails representing employers in large-scale employment litigation and labor arbitrations. In the past 35 years, Tilson has tried more than 150 jury and non-jury cases before a full range of courts, administrative agencies, and labor arbitrators. His clients include a number of the country’s largest public and private employees and Illinois’s most prestigious universities, whom he represents in both traditional labor law matters and employment litigation. This is the fifth time that Tilson has been named by Best Lawyers as a “Lawyer of the Year” in Chicago.

John Wilson primarily focuses his practice on employee benefits, ERISA, and deferred compensation matters. He is accomplished in many facets of the design, implementation and administration of the qualified and nonqualified employee benefit plans. In addition, Wilson has experience with matters relating to the employee benefit concerns in corporate acquisitions, dispositions and mergers; employee stock ownership plans, ERISA fiduciary duty and prohibited transaction matters, and matters involving the tax and ERISA concerns for employee health, life insurance, and other welfare benefit plans. This is the second time that Wilson has been honored by Best Lawyers as a “Lawyer of the Year” in Pittsburgh.
