Chris Raleigh was quoted in Law360's article on the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to hand a victory to sailors who claim they developed mesothelioma. The decision potentially broadens the liability of manufacturers of so-called bare metal products to which other companies later added asbestos. Chris expects the issue of whether a bare metal manufacturer has a duty to warn of asbestos will be revisited in other asbestos cases that don’t have a maritime connection, even though the court held that its ruling applies only in the maritime context. “It's just a matter of time [till] someone ... brings this issue back to court and asks them to apply a similar principle that was applied here in a straight tort context, as opposed to a maritime context,” Chris said.
