New York – July 11, 2018 – Cozen O’Connor is pleased to welcome transactional attorney Marnie R. Kudon to its national Real Estate practice. Kudon has spent more than a decade guiding investors and operators through New York City’s rigorous administrative approval processes. In addition, Kudon provides clients with a comprehensive review of the complexities and viable solutions that serve as the foundation for structuring multi-state joint ventures for the acquisition, development, and construction of multifamily properties. Her practice includes in-depth reviews of the proposed development and the public approvals, land use and zoning, tax incentives, environmental review, construction contracts, code compliance, leases, and financings that will be required. She also counsels and represents institutional developers, property owners, architects, engineers, and contractors in a range of matters related to the acquisition, development, construction, lease-up, land use, and zoning of multifamily properties. Kudon, who previously served as senior counsel at the New York office of Locke Lord LLP, joins the firm as a member and will reside in Cozen O’Connor’s midtown Manhattan office.
“While many large law firms focus on either the finance side or the development side of the real estate industry, we continue to invest in building a full-service, national real estate practice,” said Abby M. Wenzel, co-chair of Cozen O’Connor’s Real Estate group. “The New York City real estate market is fast-paced and highly competitive. Marnie’s a great fit because she has represented some of the biggest players in the business in some of the city’s largest real estate transactions.”
Named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers from 2014 through 2016, Kudon regularly represents clients before various city and state agencies including the New York City Department of Buildings, New York City Board of Standards and Appeals, New York City Planning Commission, and the New York City Environmental Control Board.
“I chose Cozen O’Connor because it’s among the nation’s top-rated and best known real estate firms,” Kudon says. “My experience with complex real estate transactions — most of which employ new and sophisticated deal structures — is a great match for both my clients and the collaborative nature at Cozen O’Connor. I love helping clients succeed, especially when the stakes are high and there are multiple interconnected issues. Cozen O’Connor’s real estate practice is home to many nationally recognized attorneys and I endeavor to further develop and grow the real estate practice by bringing my experience to the Cozen O’Connor family.”
Kudon earned her J.D. at Vermont Law School and her B.A. at the University of Central Florida.
Cozen O'Connor's national Real Estate Practice Group, which ranks among the top in the country, has grown rapidly in the past 12 months. In June 2017 the firm welcomed four zoning, land use and development attorneys to its Washington, D.C. office, which expanded the firm’s transactional commercial real estate practice and brought a deep knowledge of the Washington, D.C. market.
In July 2017, the firm welcomed seasoned real estate attorney Jeffrey Mills to its Pittsburgh office and Francis "Frank" Halm to its Minneapolis office. Then, in October 2017, the firm added all of the lawyers from the Los Angeles real estate and commercial litigation boutique, Gilchrist & Rutter.
The group represents REITs and other public companies, regional and national developers, owners, builders, managers, private equity funds, institutional and private investors, banks, and governments in the acquisition, development, financing, leasing, ground leasing, management, and sale of real estate in every asset class. With more than 60 attorneys in 10 offices who are regularly supported by members of its corporate, litigation, tax, and environmental groups, Cozen O’Connor provides comprehensive, integrated service to some of the largest real estate organizations in the country.
