Philadelphia, January 25, 2018 – The national corporate practice group at Cozen O’Connor represented Wilco Electronic Systems, Inc., a provider of communication services to educational, government, and low-income communities throughout Philadelphia, in the sale of its cable assets to Comcast Corporation, one of the largest internet providers in the United States. As part of the acquisition, Comcast will take over Wilco’s cable television service for the Philadelphia Housing Authority. The transaction closed on December 18, 2018.
Comcast will invest in upgrading Wilco’s current infrastructure for Philadelphia Housing Authority residents and provide access to all of Comcast's Xfinity services at competitive pricing that is in line with what customers are currently paying for Wilco.
Founded in 1977 by Will Daniel, Wilco is the largest remaining African-American-owned cable provider in the Philadelphia area. The company will continue to operate under current leadership and provide telecom services, including residential and commercial security and surveillance solutions. Comcast Cable is one of the nation’s largest video, high-speed internet, and phone providers to residential customers under the XFINITY brand, and also provides these services to businesses.
