Going after Amazon's HQ2 is like going after the Olympics

Wednesday, September 13, 2017

Jeffrey Mills, a member of Cozen O’Connor’s Real Estate Practice, discusses how competitive incentives could benefit Amazon’s search for a new headquarters in the Philadelphia Business Journal. Companies tend to keep their hunt for a new headquarters discreet; some have taken the opposite approach and publicly announced their search for a new location, which could heighten excitement and increase incentives. In Pennsylvania, which infrequently offers high-incentives, “you’re seeing locals, such as municipalities and school districts, working to create incentives locally rather than at a state level. A project on this scale, the state clearly has a bigger role,” Jeff explains. Incentives aside, the competition amongst metropolitan areas for this space will be strong.
