Former Judge: Panel May Have Improperly Dropped Charges Against Playboy Teamster

Bruce Maffeo, a member of Cozen O’Connor’s White Collar Defense & Investigations Practice, comments on the charges that the International Brotherhood of Teamsters dropped against his client William C. Smith, III, the Teamster’s executive assistant, in The Washington Free Beacon. Smith was accused of accepting passes to a cocktail party hosted by a non-union employer. Retired Judge Barbara S. Jones sent a letter to the International Brother of Teamsters, asking them to revisit the charges against Smith. “I am confident that she’ll be able to come to a decision grounded in facts and view W.C. Smith's fifty-year career for what it is: there has never been a question of his integrity or his probity,” said Bruce, in response to Jones’ letter.
