The American Lawyer published an article about the U.S. Senate unanimously passing the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act, a bill that will clear the way for the civil litigation filed in 2009 by the 9/11 families to hold the Kingdom Saudi Arabia and its charities liable for supporting al-Qaida. Sean Carter, a member of Cozen O’Connor, anticipates the bill will pass the house and the president won’t veto a “veto-proof bill.” Once the law is passed, Sean will seek summary remand from the district court (which dismissed the case last year pending appeal to the Second Circuit). “The change in law would remove the basis for dismissal,” said Sean.
