With the United States at the epicenter of the worldwide coronavirus pandemic, the focus of many in house legal teams has been on mitigating the legal risks associated with the unexpected economic fallout caused by the pandemic. As employers, terminations, furloughs, hours and pay reductions, and working from home have become part of the new normal for many companies. With no end to the pandemic expected in the near term, the employment law issues arising from the pandemic will continue to challenge in-house counsel for the foreseeable future. California remains a challenging environment and employers that fail to keep up with the various changes in federal, state, and local law do so at their peril. The pandemic has only made it more challenging.
