Bill Walsh and C. Dennis Moore, Ph.D at Exponent will host a Cozen O'Connor webinar titled, "The Devil is in the Data: Unseen Pitfalls in Recent Commercial Drone Rulemaking" on December 11, 2019. In the push to develop commercially viable drone operations, many operators are looking hopefully to recent developments in drone regulation. These proposed regulations invite potential commercial operators to develop data to provide assurance about safety but, in doing so, may be developing evidence that could prove damaging in future claims litigation. This webinar will examine the current direction of commercial drone regulation and tension between safety and commercial viability that is at the heart of current effort. Among other things, the efficacy of the injury threshold assumptions incorporated into the proposed regulations are assessed in light of known UAS impact dynamics.

The presenters will discuss:

  • Review of small unmanned aircraft regulations
  • Federal rulemaking
  • Flying over people
  • Damage from UAVs
  • Design requirements
  • Uniform Tort Law Relating to Drones Act
  • Where are we headed?
