With a Little Help from My Friends

Often times, companies with small (or non-existent) Human Resources departments rely on third-party partners for assistance in administering payroll or medical leave – but the employer may still be legally responsible for any missteps along the way. In this session, we will review items to what to watch for when selecting and using third-party administrators.

Working 9 to 5…And Maybe Overtime

Wage and hour laws can be difficult to manage for companies large and small. In this session, we will review key differences between the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and the Pennsylvania Minimum Wage Act, proper employee classification (both exempt/non-exempt and independent contractor), and proper payroll deduction practices. We will also review best practices for managing wage and hour compliance through third-party staffing providers.

Administering medical leave, non-medical leave, workers’ compensation leave, and paid or unpaid time off is a daily hurdle for HR professionals. In this session, we will discuss the legal parameters for various types of leave and provide practical tools for navigating this tricky area of employment law.
