End Date: 10/18/2017

Lori Kalani and Jerry Kilgore, both members of Cozen O'Connor's State Attorneys General practice, will be speaking at this event in Washington, D.C. The panel they are speaking on is called "The Nuts and Bolts of a Successful Response to a State Attorney General Inquiry in the U.S." Although managing government investigations is often part of the in-house counsel role, successfully tackling a subpoena from a state AG in the United States presents special considerations. The approach can’t simply mirror a response to a federal regulator, as a request from a state AG — much less a multi-state group of state AGs — includes varied and nuanced elements that must be carefully treated and considered.

This session will examine how in-house counsel can address complex and potentially conflicting state laws, including nuances in consumer protection and state Freedom of Information Act laws. It will also address strategic and policy-related aspects unique to state AGs, and provide practical advice for corporate counsel who find themselves confronted by a multi-state AG investigation. Other panelists include Jeff Blum, SVP and Deputy General Counsel of the DISH Network, and Lawrence Drexler, General Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer of Barclays Bank Delaware.
